Fundraising with Washington and Lee at the Atlanta History Center

By | Event Industry, Vendors | No Comments

We got a phone call from our lovely friend Kim Pollard at Atlanta’s Bold American…you know, the folks that do amazing events, have great venues, delicious catering, and a handful of fabulous restaurants around Atlanta? Well, the very prestigious Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia was hosting a fund raising event and needed a photographer. PWP Studio was more than happy to oblige!

This event was part of a multi-year fundraising effort by WLU for both their alumni and active students called “Honor our Past, Build Our Future.” This fundraiser has had multiple events in some of the best cities across America, this particular one was held at the largest history museum in the southeast…the Atlanta history Center!

The beautiful Grand Overlook Ballroom.

Man, don’t those olives look good!

The Atlanta History Center does more than just corporate events, or fundraisers like this one. They have the ability to host lectures, weddings, you can even film your next blockbuster movie there! With so many different types of venues to choose from (The flower filled Swan House Gardens, the rustic Smith Family Farm, or inside the elegant Atlanta History Museum itself) you’re sure to find a look that matches up with your vision.

Speaking of finding something– if you visit the Atlanta History Center website, you can play a little game of “Where’s Waldo Patrick?” with the head honcho of PWP Studio! Comment and tell us if you found him in one of the front page photos. It just goes to show you– PWP Studio is everywhere!

200 Ways to be Amazed at 200 Peachtree

When I am on-site shooting, I am focused – almost to a flaw. I am intently watching the flow of the event, thinking about the best camera settings for the situation, testing light temperature and exposure, looking for lively interactions between guests, visualizing what alternate perspectives may look like, keeping an eye on my assistant to make certain his lighting is not in my shot, looking behind me to make certain I am not obstructing the view of the guest (I am a HORRIBLE window), and many other tiny tasks that make up my definition of “professional event photography”. Rarely do I actually take my eye away from the camera and pay attention to the experience that is happening in front of my camera – the experience is for the guest, and my job is to capture it.

Sometimes though, the experience has too much impact to ignore! Such was the case this past Saturday night at 200 Peachtree: Corporate Events Unlimited teamed up with PWP Studio and more of the city’s best to create a magical night for our client and their employees.

Downstairs we greeted guests on arrival with a step/repeat logo wall we designed while our team upstairs captured guests enjoying drinks and passed hors d’oeuvres.

Once dinner was seated, roaming coverage continued and we changed our portrait station to a custom 200 Peachtree ballroom background created just for this event – we all really had a good time with it!

Dinner was followed by a smashing production display combined with a brilliant aerialist show and rockin’ soundtrack. Yes, I did take lots of pictures, but there were times when I was literally dumbfounded [chin + floor] by my surroundings – it was cool!

All in all, it was a great evening – thanks to our wonderful client for inviting PWP to capture this event for the fourth consecutive year, and to Gary and Paul for helping me capture this fantastic night!! Oh yea, – also to this nice lady who jumped behind the camera and screamed, “SAY CHEESE!”.
