PWP Studio Captures the Starwood-Sponsored Jim Furyk Experience at the St. Marlo Country Club

By | Corporate Events, Destinations, Green Things, PWP-ism

How about a private golf clinic, with the 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year teaching you the secret to his perfect swing?

Starwood guests got the privilege of a private coaching session from pro golfer Jim Furyk at the St. Marlo Country Club. It was a two part program — the first part was a small group golf clinic style lesson where Jim went over some great details about basic swing, basic grip, and some of his favorite practice methods.

After he was finished with the clinic, he answered some questions about being on tour and what it is like traveling to all the fantastic PGA events. He was a really super guy to work with, and his insights were very much appreciated by the crowd. One little thing you may not know about Jim: he loves to cook and often opts to eat in at bigger tournaments!

Once the Q&A session was over, it was time to hit the links! All the teams had a fantastic time hanging out with a real pro… although most were a little shy to show their amateur swing around this heavy hitter!

“That’s the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it!”

Every time I head out of the house to go to a networking event – it is clear we are a little unusual when compared to the competition. You see, it isn’t odd that we provide event photography, but we are certainly part of a very small minority that only captures corporate events. I guess that kind of focus is very odd; most of the new connections I meet look at me with that cocked head sideways stare while they process what I’ve said.

The dialogue usually goes something like this:

“PWP Studio specializes in corporate event photography and providing the event decor and detail images our industry partners use to promote their services.”

“You don’t shoot weddings?”

“Nope – we did at one time, but we stopped accepting new social clients in January of 2010 – to focus on our corporate business.”

“Do you miss shooting weddings?”

“At times I miss the creative outlet and I wholeheartedly miss sharing the magical ‘I do’ moment with my clients, but I like having my weekends back to spend with my family. Plus – not once in the past year and a half have I had to field a call from the mother of one of my corporate clients!” 😉

“Haha, what about mitzvahs?”

“Nope – we photographed one of those back in 2006 and decided it would be the first and the last. There is just something about 25 screaming teenage girls + sugar + caffeine + extremely loud music + 25 screaming teenage boys who happen to sound just like 25 screaming girls that makes my right shoulder and jaw start to twitch!”

“Sooo, you just do corporate events???”

“Exactly!”

It is refreshing when a client “gets it” – such was the case with a great friend of the studio, Bradni Lamb, over at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia. She copied me on an (unsolicited) e-mail that went out to her sales team and I want to share it with you here because it pretty much sums up what we do in a very simple manner:

“Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know about a great corporate photographer if you ever need some one to refer a client to.  His name is Patrick Williams and he owns a company called PWP Studio.  He has done several events for me in the past and does an amazing job.  You can check out his work at www.pwpstudio.com.  His contact information is below.

Starwood Features Our Westin Brand Images

By | Destinations, Personal Favorites | No Comments

I checked my email last Wednesday and what do I see? A Starwood (national) email blast featuring one of our studio’s images! Awesome!

As a preferred vendor partner for the Westin Buckhead Atlanta, we were invited to capture the image featured below in October of last year. It took two months, but we successfully navigated the Starwood corporate approval process for the Westin brand standards and provided this approved image in December – along with a host of other updated room and meeting space images for their website and print media.

Take a look – in addition to pretty pictures, they had some amazing deals and from what I’ve been told, their current offers are not to be missed either!

You should check out of your hometown, check in to a Westin, and check out one of these fab destination cities!

How Celebrities Helped Us Make It 10 Years

By | Personal Favorites | 5 Comments

My wife Angel and I just recently celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary down at the beach. It is odd that we have made it so long – not that we struggle, but successful long-term relationships don’t seem to be the ‘norm’ these days. We are blessed and happy it has worked out that way – neither of us could tell you exactly why. As she has said on numerous occasions, “On paper it shouldn’t work…but it does.”

Anyway, we always do silly little things between us, so one thing we kept doing over and over again on this beach trip was making comments when we noticed something that one of us really liked about the other, or some contribution to the relationship. Didn’t matter how big or small – in fact, sometimes the smaller the better. To give you a quick example:

“Angel, I really like the way you cut the limes just big enough to put in a Corona bottle. Maybe THAT is one of the tricks to making it 10 years…”

After we had four or five of these things big and small, we realized we were onto something — I thought I might share it here on the blog in case somebody out there might benefit from knowing what has helped us make 10 years happen. Part of it is chemistry, part luck, part blessings from above, and part good ol’ hard work!!

And of course, the only thing more fun than giving practical fun relationship advice is involving celebrities. So we have come up with the best celebrity quotes that support our best relational practices.

Lionel Richie, “Easy like Sunday morning….”
Lionel taught us to be flexible and easy. Our translation: defer every time you have no strong feelings about a decision… this breeds peace. If it doesn’t matter that much to you – let it go!

Kanye West, “Work it harder, make it better – now that that don’t kill me can only make me stronger.”
Relationships take good old fashioned hard work. You can’t stop working at it, and when you do continue to work it will make you stronger as an individual and as a couple.

Boy George, “Do you really want to hurt me? Do you really want to make me cry?”
Do not avoid confrontation. Just avoid the elevation of volume and the corresponding tendency to become irrational and say things you don’t mean! You should have disagreements and should work them out; but why fight? Make sure you start heated discussions with the assumption you will love this person after the topic is worked out. Volumes will stay lower and aggression will have no home in your heart –“reason” will stick around for the whole conversation.

50 Cent, “Go, shorty it’s your birthday. We’re gonna party like it’s your birthday.”
In addition to Valentine’s Day, celebrate everything: anniversary of your first date, anniversary of your first kiss, birthdays, the date of your engagement, the first time you had dinner outside together — anything and everything you can think of. Even when they are easy, relationships are hard work. Celebrate each other for your accomplishments as a couple. We celebrated our monthly anniversaries for the first two years plus a gaggle of other little dates. Sixteen years later we still celebrate our first date, wedding date, birthdays, and our engagement date. And remember, it doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, just recognition of your accomplishment!

Willie Nelson, “On the Road again – just can’t wait to get on the road again.”
I can’t speak for everybody, but in our relationship and a lot of others I have seen you need to love traveling together. It doesn’t matter how it works or what the roles are on your road trip, it just needs to work. For example, we have fairly traditional roles on auto trips: I drive 90% of the time, Angel takes command of all air/tune/food/nap management, and we like to have great long talks about nothing and everything on the road. Going places and having wonderful mutual relationship experiences in new places is better if you don’t arrive at every destination upset with your lover.

Elvis, “Love me tender….”
In our house we call it “Rubbins” but it doesn’t matter what the name is: massage your mate. Nothing builds intimacy, appreciation, and “opportunity” like a good laying on of hands when it is needed – and especially when it’s not!

Marvin Gaye, “And when I get that feeling I want sexual healing.”
I believe you are a smart person and can figure it out! Just acknowledge it works both ways in the relationship 😉

U2, “She wore lemon….”
Pay attention to your significant other’s appearance. When they do something — ANYTHING — with their hair, clothes, perfume, makeup etc. – notice it. Notice it verbally and/or publicly!

President Clinton, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”
Don’t cheat. Whether you tell him/her or not, it will torture you forever.

Elton John, “My gift is my song and this one’s for you….”
Be creative with gestures; not everything you do has to be a thing… or expensive. The value of gifts is in the thought, effort and consideration put into them. Diamonds will last forever (and don’t ever forget that) but some of the most meaningful and valuable gifts I have given (and received) were cheap or free.

I hope this helps you or just makes you smile. After all, the celebs can’t be all wrong!!!

PWP Studio Captures Procter & Gamble Canada Sales Meeting in WOCC

By | Corporate Events, Event Industry | No Comments

Procter & Gamble Canada held their July 2011 sales meeting in the World of Coca-Cola Company (WOCC) museum in Atlanta. It was not an ordinary meeting but a fun time with loads of good food and lots of good people. Everyone present had an amazing time and PWP Studio has heaps of incredible shots to show for it!

A Legendary Event helped set the mood with their decorations and their delicious Coca-Cola inspired menu.

The party officially started when Canadian rock star Shawn Desman went on stage and put on a helluva show — for real!

Not to be upstaged, Mr. Bear made multiple appearances — including posing with the ladies and dancing at the end!
